Welcome to my blog

My name is Neil and this is my Universe...

Collectively known as the Neilyverse. I love watching films and Tv drama series. My favourites push the boundaries of the medium, others just follow a test audiences idea of what should happen. I prefer lots of WTF moments or genuine touching moments that creep up on you. I think i expect too much sometimes lol.

A scientist is called in to help Special Forces in Moldova to fight invisible killers. An interesting and well filmed effort from the Netflix studio. Brilliant effects and good direction are slightly let down by a supernatural plot. Worth a evening entertainment if you like the Sci-fi/horror cross over idea. 5.8/10

After an amazing trailer this highly anticipated Marvel superhero movie could have been better. The story is that after letting a powerful sorceress unleash a powerful end of the world baddie it is up to the Government to amass a team of villains to go on a suicide mission to stop the apocalypse. I think the re shoots and the re editing detracted from the back ground stories but what you have left is still a nice twist on the usual super hero bollocks. Margot Robbie steals the show as Harley Quinn and has all the best lines. 6.0/10

Noami Rapace (Sherlock Holmes/ Girl with the dragoon tattoo original) is abducted and forced to face her darkest fears in order to reach the rupture. A horror movie with a fresh twist on the usually abduction / saw / torture genre. Though it looks as though its budget wasn’t massive it is still adequate. More of a good “Twilight Zone” episode than a blockbuster. 5.9/10

If you want a British Zombie movie with a twist then give this a go. The story follows a school teacher working on a military base post disaster. Her students are all highly restrained whilst in lessons and placed in cells when not. She develops a relationship with one of the children and after an incident must escape the base and head for sanctuary. Gemma Arterton, Glenn Close, and Paddy Considine are all on top form. Worth a visit. 7.2/10

A cryogenically frozen passenger is awoken early aboard an interstellar journey to a new world only 30 years in. He has the entire ship to discover but after a while his boredom and loneliness cause him to revive an attractive female companion. A rom-com, with a sci-fi twist , with Chris Pratt & Jennifer Lawrence. To be fair I think I would have woken her too. A good film that has the right mix of all its attributes. 7.0/10

I liked the camp and original Roger Corman’s “Death race 2000” (1975), the reboots not so much. Roger gets the rights back to basically rewrite and update some ideas on the original but it seems with an even tighter budget. It becomes a parody of the original and in the end it comes to a messy conclusion. Forget this watch the original for more fun. 4.0/10
