Welcome to my blog

My name is Neil and this is my Universe...

Collectively known as the Neilyverse. I love watching films and Tv drama series. My favourites push the boundaries of the medium, others just follow a test audiences idea of what should happen. I prefer lots of WTF moments or genuine touching moments that creep up on you. I think i expect too much sometimes lol.

A couple are sent to a holiday home to try and find each other again but find another identical couple living in the summer house at the end of the garden. A well put together film that is bigger than its independent roots. If you think of it as a 'transdimensional relate' then you are on the right track. 5.9/10

A budget Scottish film that follows the progress of a couple’s relationship with the backdrop of a life threatening comet heading towards Earth. This could have been more interesting and to be fair it went in a direction that I didn’t like or appreciate. 3.5/10

A young couple meet through a terminal cancer therapy group. Yes, 2 and a half hours of that. If they didn't have cancer then this would be the blandest romance ever. I even thought the oxygen bottle might win best supporting actor as i found it more interesting than this couple. Ok so they meet and fall in love, "Let’s be crazy", they throw eggs at an ex-girlfriends car, very politely. Crazy man! What really made me fall out with them was the pretentious book strand of the story. Give me a break. See it on Channel 5 in the afternoon. 2.9/10

Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet star in this tale of an escaped convict that stays with a divorced woman and her son whilst evading the police. Well acted and surprisingly entertaining. Not an action movie but definately pleasant. 6/10

Russell Crowe and Colin Farrell star in this Fantasy adult fairytale of Good Vs. Evil and the power of true love. A bit whimsical in places and i’m not sure about the Will Smith Cameo, but could have turned out worse. Crowe is menacing, and doesn’t sing so he comes out the best in this film as Farrell reverts back to his romantic bad boy role, which i find beneath him. The film is not quite as coherent as you would wish and requires a suspension of disbelief for certain bits but it might appeal to the odd romantic. 4.7/10
