Welcome to my blog

My name is Neil and this is my Universe...

Collectively known as the Neilyverse. I love watching films and Tv drama series. My favourites push the boundaries of the medium, others just follow a test audiences idea of what should happen. I prefer lots of WTF moments or genuine touching moments that creep up on you. I think i expect too much sometimes lol.

Game of thrones is medieval fantasy tale which follows the power struggle between several warring families when the ruling king dies. This quality adult drama has had no expense spared, expect graphic battles, hard language and graphic nudity. A vast cast full of colourful characters excellently play their roles for keeps. If you haven’t watched this ground breaking series then jump on the horse and cart now. This is not Xena warrior princess! 9/10

A con on his way to his execution is freed by a group of mysterious individuals to baby sit a young girl as she flees a corporate entity with huge resources. The con and his companion are closer than they think and she has move to her than at first meets the eye. Very similar (including titles) to the TV show “Touch”; minus the no verbal, non-charismatic difficult son. Nice chemistry between the two main characters keeps the J.J. Abrams (lost) & Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity) show going. 5.5/10

A group of kidnappers take over a school bus full of Americas elite’s children from an privileged college. They then use these children to blackmail their parents into doing actions to forward their end goal. A nicely progressive “24” type thriller that is easy to watch if not too ground breaking. 5.3/10

Sci-fi story set in the future, where humanity has had to spend the last 70 years in space due to a war on earth. 100 children from the cells on the space station are used as an exploration force to see if Earth is inhabitable as the facilities on the space station are no longer able to keep the current population alive for much longer. Has started quite well as long as it doesn’t regress into a “90210” teen drama. 5.5/10

For anyone who has seen the original “Dusk til Dawn” movie with George Clooney, then you will either love or hate this version, for that is what it is “a version”. Once you get over the fact that this is an embellishment of the movie and the fact Clooney isn’t in it, or for that fact any of the original cast, it isn’t as bad as the trailer suggests. For those that haven’t seen the original it is the tale of two bank robbing brothers who are trying to make their way to Mexico to escape the law by any means necessary. Stick in a family in recovery that are kidnapped, a psychotic bank robbing brother and some Mexican vampire mumbo jumbo and you have a bit of a roller coaster of a journey. The tv series has had enough back story and new areas of interest to keep most fans of the original there but doesn’t quite have the quality or the pacing of the big budget movie. 5/10

This is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. The story of Nick Castle (a successful crime author), who is placed into a New York detective squad, for true life experience of the unit. The detectives are led by the sexy det. Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). Over the weeks the two create a sometimes comical love / hate bond as they solve crimes together. Nathan Fillion from the cult tv show Fire Fly gives the show a light and humorous feel that is an easy watch, plus Det. Kate Beckett is raunchy throughout. 7.2/10

A family friendly super hero based adventure series that runs in the same Marvel universe as the big block buster movies such as Thor, Iron Man, Captain America etc. The show follows the missions of a team of S.H.I.E.L.D agents as they run about the globe trying to contain super heroes and villains from the public. A bit too family viewing for my tastes, but i’m sure is appreciated by most young and upcoming geeks. 5.7/10
