Welcome to my blog

My name is Neil and this is my Universe...

Collectively known as the Neilyverse. I love watching films and Tv drama series. My favourites push the boundaries of the medium, others just follow a test audiences idea of what should happen. I prefer lots of WTF moments or genuine touching moments that creep up on you. I think i expect too much sometimes lol.

Based in World War 2 this espionage drama revolves around an American spy who marries a French resistance fighter after a dangerous mission. Unfortunately he must question her loyalty when his superiors hear that she is not who she says she is. A quite enjoyable war time romp. 6.1/10

Based on the true story of a company of Irish UN troops peacekeeping in sixties Africa. As the country falls into deeper unrest they are besieged by an overwhelming force. Once the battle ensues the film goes into a full action movie with some great set scenes. A good effort for a Netflix funded film. 6.3/10

Another true story account, this time about the first Conscientious Objector to receive the Medal of honour whilst serving with the Army in the Second World War in the Pacific theatre of operations. A great cast do a sterling job when the film finally kicks in after an hour of setting up Andy Garfield’s lead character. From then on it is blood and guts until the end. A worthwhile watch if you can get over the religious / faith overtones. However I feel that this made the man so I overlooked it. 6.8/10

Based on the true accounts of Kim Barker, a reporter turned War Correspondent, in Afghanistan. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is the military Phonetic alphabet for W.T.F. which is an abbreviation for “What The Fuck”, which sums up the problems with the conflict and its effects quite well. When I saw this had comedy actress Tina Fey in I was expecting “Bridesmaids” in Kabul, but though it is light hearted it still had context. Definitely worth a watch as it charmed me and I can’t really put my finger on why? Lol. 6.8/10

A thriller based around a drone attack by the British army against high value terrorist targets in Africa. I seen a lot of these moral airborne missions and this one is taut and well done, though Inever knew buying loafs of bread could be so dramatic. Remember this kids when you are getting your Hovis from Tesco express. 6.7/10

Based on the true story of some private military operators working for the CIA who have to reach out and then hold out against a outnumbering force without aid from the local government forces. A great war film that I would place between “American Sniper” and “Black Hawk Down”, BHD being the better of the two. 7.5/10
